US President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to tax evasion. The federal counsel informed this on the eve of the proceedings of the case on Thursday. Hunter faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted in the case.
Hunter is accused of willfully underpaying $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019. However, Hunter denied the allegations.
Hunter was scheduled to go on trial Thursday in federal court in Los Angeles. Jury empanelment was underway. At this time, the court was informed about Hunter's guilty plea.
Judge Mark Scarci warned Hunter could face a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted. The fine can be 5 lakh to 10 lakh dollars. The judge wants to know whether Hunter is aware of these issues. Hunter replied, "I know."
Hunter's guilty plea to tax evasion would be his second felony conviction within a year. He was previously convicted in a Delaware state court last June of making false statements about drug addiction when purchasing a firearm. Hunter faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison if convicted.
The President of the United States can pardon any criminal. The President has that power. But President Joe Biden has already said, he will not use the executive power to pardon to save his son Hunter.
